The Prambanan temple courtyard will host about 30 performers over three days as the Prambanan Jazz Festival opens July 3 and runs through July 5, with daily performances starting around 2 p.m. and extending late into the evening. This is the 12th edition of the festival, which has used the 9th-century Hindu temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as its main stage since 2015.

The festival's theme, "Celebrate The Joy," is the organizer Rajawali Indonesia's invitation to bring three generations together in one courtyard. "This year's Prambanan Jazz Festival explores new harmony by turning the temple courtyard into one large living room. A place for three generations to meet, share warmth, and celebrate joy together," said Anas Syahrul Alimi, CEO of Prambanan Jazz Festival.

To realize that vision, the 2026 lineup brings artists whose musical tastes barely overlap: NIKI (R&B and global pop, on the 88rising label), Michael Learns To Rock (1990s pop-rock from Denmark), The Rose and Xdinary Heroes (K-pop from South Korea), Henry Moodie (English pop), and Joey Alexander (jazz). The Indonesian side includes Kahitna, Tulus, KLA Project, Ari Lasso, Maliq & D'Essentials, Letto, Barasuara, Mocca, Yovie & Nuno, Jikustik, Salma Salsabil, Lomba Sihir, and more than a dozen other performers.

What's different at the 12th edition?

The involvement of Eko Nugroho as commissioned artist sets this edition apart. Eko Nugroho is a graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta known for street art, graffiti, and socially critical comics; he also founded Daging Tumbuh (DGTMB) and Wayang Bocor. For the 12th edition, he designed the festival's visual identity from top to bottom: from color concepts and visual rhythm to natural elements that form the aesthetic language of "Celebrate The Joy."

Eko describes his visual identity as a grounded space that plants hope and spreads happiness for people and the environment. Prambanan Jazz 2026 features a layer of visual art that holds equal weight with the music in the festival's narrative.

Why is NIKI the Saturday headliner?

NIKI is a Jakarta-born singer who has built her career in the United States through the 88rising label. Appearing as the Saturday, July 4 headliner, her performance is positioned as a homecoming moment for a talent who has reached the global stage. "For year 12, we want every audience member to go home smiling. NIKI is the right person to represent 'Celebrate The Joy'—a world-class talent who brings pride and extraordinary joy when she returns home," said Anas.

MLTR fills the Friday, July 3 headliner slot. The Danish band, popular for hits from the 1990s, provides a nostalgia layer for audiences over 30. KLA Project, Kahitna, and Ari Lasso deepen that layer for Indonesian listeners.

Three festival days during school break

The July 3-5 timing coincides with Indonesia's national school holiday, which drives tourism surges across the country. Prambanan Jazz competes directly with various tourism activities families flock to during this period, including a rising trend of museum passports. The festival offers a different proposition: one daily ticket brings K-pop, 1990s pop-rock nostalgia, and acoustic jazz to one historic location.

The impact is direct across Sleman and Klaten. Hotels, transportation, and restaurants along the Jogja-Solo corridor stand to absorb the three-day surge. Yogyakarta has already proven its ability to draw thousands across provinces. Jogja Marathon 2026, for example, brought 10,200 runners from 17 countries.

Tickets and what to bring

Tickets are sold daily through tiptip.id in three categories: Festival at Rp1,150,000, Super Festival at Rp2,150,000, and VIP Jazzmine at Rp3,500,000. Festival tickets do not include entry to the Prambanan temple complex. Both are purchased separately.

The festival takes place in an open area at the height of the dry season. Audiences arriving in the afternoon will face sun exposure for several hours before evening, something to keep in mind, especially for families with small children.

The full schedule for each performer will be released in stages and can be followed through Rajawali Indonesia's official channels.
