Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Kalasuara ("we") collects, uses, and protects data when you visit this site.

Data we collect

  • Automatic data. When you access the site, our server and analytics services may record your IP address, browser type, device, pages visited, and visit time.
  • Data you provide. For example, your email address when subscribing to the newsletter or contacting the newsroom.

Cookies

This site uses cookies and similar technologies to run basic functions, remember preferences, measure traffic, and serve relevant ads. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work optimally.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. The service is active for all visitors by default and sets cookies to measure traffic in aggregated form. You can opt out at any time through your browser's cookie settings or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on. Learn how Google uses data.

Third-party advertising (Google AdSense)

In the future, this site may display ads via Google AdSense and third-party partners.

  • Our default: non-personalised ads (NPA). If ads are enabled, this site serves non-personalised ads by default — ads are chosen from the page content, not your profile or browsing history. Personalised ads are not enabled.
  • Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.
  • Google's advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings, or manage third-party cookies at www.aboutads.info.

Fact-check participation (Report, Vote, Leaderboard)

  • Claim reports (Report). When you submit a claim to be checked, we store the claim text and any link/context you provide — without storing the reporter's identity or IP address. Please do not include personal data in the form.
  • Voting. Voting requires a logged-in account. We record which account voted for which claim to prevent duplicate votes and compute leaderboard points.
  • Leaderboard. The public leaderboard shows a display name or pseudonym — not your email address.
  • Aggregate stats. We count events (report/vote/result-view) in aggregate and anonymous form, not tied to any individual, to understand feature usage (in line with Indonesia's PDP law).

Reader accounts & newsletter

  • Account data. When you create an account we store your email, name, password (hashed, never stored in plain text), optional profile data (phone, city, date of birth, bio), and language/newsletter preferences.
  • Secure storage. Account data lives in a database outside the web root (not publicly reachable); passwords are hashed with PBKDF2.
  • Self-service. On the Account page you can update your profile, change your email (the new address must be confirmed — your current email stays active until then), download a copy of your data (JSON), and delete your account permanently.
  • Data retention. Accounts that are never verified are deleted automatically after 90 days. Active accounts are kept until you delete them; newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

Links to other sites

Our articles may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, download, or delete the personal data we hold (in line with Indonesia's PDP Law). Most of this you can do yourself on the Account page — change email, download data, delete account. For other requests, contact us via the Contact page.
