Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin has appointed Rinaldi Umar as director of investigations at the Deputy Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), replacing Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, who moves to become Director III at the Deputy Attorney General's Office for Intelligence. The appointment is set out in Attorney General Decree No. 831 of 2026 on the dismissal and appointment of civil servants to structural posts within the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, dated July 22, 2026.

Rinaldi had been serving as deputy head of the Banten High Prosecutor's Office, a post he took up after his inauguration in Serang on May 5, 2026. That means he spent only about two and a half months in Banten before moving to a role that oversees all of Jampidsus's investigative work.

Decree No. 831 covers the rotation and promotion of 29 structural officials at once, eight of them heads of high prosecutor's offices. Supardi moves from head of the East Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office to secretary of the Asset Recovery Agency, while Muhammad Syarifuddin shifts from director of operations control at Jampidsus to head of the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office.

Anang Supriatna, head of the Attorney General's Office Center for Legal Information, called the reshuffle a routine organizational process. "This is indeed a normal part of the promotion and rotation process to refresh the organization," he said. He added that the moves also fill vacant posts "to fill several open positions and keep services running smoothly for the public, particularly in service delivery and law enforcement."

Why does Rinaldi's Tim 9 membership matter?

It matters because Rinaldi now runs Jampidsus's investigative function while still serving as one of nine prosecutors on Tim 9, the team investigating alleged corruption and money laundering tied to the handling of the PT Asabri case from 2020 to 2024, a case that has ensnared former Jampidsus chief Febrie Adriansyah. The team's other members are Agus Salim, Muhibuddin, Chatarina Muliana Girsang, Riyono, Agus Sahat, Irene Putri, Zet Tadung Allo, and Hari Wibowo.

Rinaldi's position has shifted from a temporary member of a special team to a permanent official running Jampidsus's day-to-day investigations. Prosecutors have not said whether this changes Tim 9's makeup or its reporting line.

Pujiyono Suwadi, chairman of the Prosecutorial Commission, urged the team to stay focused on evidence and tune out outside pressure. "We're telling them to wear blinders. They don't need to listen to noise from any side. Focus on strengthening and maximizing the evidence and the criminal acts involved," he said. He voiced confidence in the team's record: "Our records show all nine are prosecutors with excellent track records, who are of high integrity and professionalism." The commission said it will monitor every stage of the case.

A new Jampidsus leadership forms all at once

On the same day, July 22, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto issued a presidential decree naming Kuntadi as Jampidsus chief. The special crimes chain of command changed at once, from the top post down to the investigations director, just as the office handles a case involving its own former leader.

Prosecutors have not announced an inauguration or handover date for Rinaldi. Decree No. 831 confirms his new post, but when he formally takes up authority as Jampidsus investigations director is still unclear.

Developments worth watching include an official account of Tim 9's makeup after the rotation, further investigative steps in the Febrie Adriansyah case such as witness questioning and asset tracing, and how Rinaldi and Kuntadi coordinate on setting priorities for special crimes cases.
