Samsung Electronics Indonesia unveiled two new smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and the Galaxy Watch9, in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026, a day after both launched globally at Galaxy Unpacked in London. The Ultra2 is priced at Rp10,499,000, about 75 percent more than the Rp5,999,000 Watch9 40mm, even though the two models share the same processor and core health features.
The Ultra2 and Watch9 launched in the same Unpacked lineup as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, rounding out Samsung's premium device lineup for the year.
What does the 75 percent price gap actually buy you?
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 sits at the top of Samsung's smartwatch lineup and is built for extreme conditions, running the same processor as the Watch9 inside a tougher body. Buyers get double the battery capacity of the Watch9, a screen 67 percent brighter, twice the storage, and durability that extends to diving. The Watch9 keeps the same processor and core health features at a much lower price.
The Ultra2's battery holds 800mAh, slightly more than double the Watch9 40mm's 390mAh. Its screen reaches a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, compared with 3,000 nits on the Watch9. Ultra2 storage is 64GB, double the Watch9's 32GB. Measured against the Watch9 40mm, the Ultra2's Rp4,500,000 premium goes mostly into those three components, plus a titanium body and durability certifications covering 10 ATM, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H, and EN13319. Against the Rp6,499,000 Watch9 44mm, the Ultra2's premium narrows to Rp4,000,000, or 61.5 percent.
Sensors and health features are nearly identical on both models
Both watches run a Qualcomm SDW6100 penta-core processor built on a 3-nanometer process, Wear OS 7, and Samsung's One UI 9 Watch interface. Both carry 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and dual-frequency L1 and L5 GPS. The BioActive sensor on both models runs the same features: Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, sleep apnea risk detection, and hearing monitoring.
"Samsung is committed to helping more people live better lives. We want the shift from reactive care to more proactive health care to feel as easy as possible. By integrating devices people use every day into the scale of our global ecosystem, Samsung keeps building an increasingly connected health experience," said TM Roh, CEO, President and Head of the Device eXperience Division at Samsung Electronics.
Those features still come with technical limits. Vitals needs at least seven nights of sleep data to work, and Daily Cardio Load needs a minimum of seven days of activity data, with 28 days of continuous wear for optimal results. Sleep apnea detection only flags risk signs under certain conditions and in certain countries, and results still need medical follow-up.
Lighter body, bigger battery than the previous generation
Ilham Indrawan, Head of MX Product Marketing Senior Manager at Samsung Electronics Indonesia, walked through the Ultra2's design changes from the previous Galaxy Watch Ultra.
"If you've used the previous Watch Ultra, this one feels much lighter now. In terms of thickness, it's only 12 percent thinner than the previous generation. So it's lighter, but we actually gave it a bigger battery, up to 35 percent bigger than the previous generation," Ilham said.
The Ultra2 measures 47.4 x 47.1 x 10.7mm and weighs 61.5 grams, double the Watch9 40mm's 31.5 grams. The Ultra2 also adds GPX route tracking for trail running and a diving function that logs depth, duration, and water temperature. On tracking accuracy, Ilham said, "You don't need to worry about losing signal, because the accuracy has gotten a lot better." The Ultra2 Diving app, developed with Mares, includes ascent and descent speed tracking and safe diving limits, and is scheduled to launch by the end of 2026.
Watch9 40mm pricing isn't consistent across sources
Samsung Newsroom materials and Carisinyal, an Indonesian tech outlet, both list the Watch9 40mm at Rp5,999,000. Antara, Indonesia's state news agency, covering the same Jakarta launch, reported Rp5,969,000, a Rp30,000 difference from Carisinyal's figure. The gap is small enough that it doesn't change the conclusion that the Ultra2's premium runs to roughly three-quarters of the Watch9 40mm's price, but it does mean the final figure still needs to be checked directly through official Samsung Indonesia sales channels before buying.
Sales schedule
Samsung Newsroom says first sales in several global markets begin August 7. Carisinyal reports Watch9 shipments in Indonesia are scheduled to start August 10, while Antara says the pre-order period runs until August 13, 2026. The three dates likely mark different stages: the global launch, local shipping, and the close of the pre-order window.
For Indonesian buyers, the core choice is simple. The Watch9 40mm covers daily sleep, fitness, and heart health monitoring at half the Ultra2's price. The Ultra2 only makes sense for trail runners, hikers, or divers who need long battery life, a bright outdoor display, and high durability certification.
